Description
In August 2014, Mary Engelbriet, the illustrator of many children's books and a line of greeting cards, posted a piece of anti-racism art on her Facebook page in response to the unrest that rocked her hometown, St. Louis–area town of Ferguson. The picture In the USA shows an African American mother and child looking at the newspaper headlines Hands Up, Don't Shoot accompanied by floating text which reads, “No One Should Have to Teach Their Children This In The USA.” Ben Davis discusses the Facebook comments the picture unleased and the corresponding news and media reaction and coverage.
According to the Mary Engelbreit website all proceeds from the sale of the In the USA print will go to the Michael Brown Jr. Memorial Fund.
